It’s summer time which means HOT & SUNNY! After the cold winters we have in Iowa, we take all the heat and sunshine that we can get. But sometimes you just need a break from the heat and need a little opportunity to cool off. We’ve collected a list of some fun ways you can cool down this summer in Delaware County, Iowa!
1. Take a Splash in the Manchester Whitewater Park
Cool down by surfing or riding the waves at the midwest’s largest whitewater park! The park has something for all ages, so grab a kayak or tube, floatation device, and take a ride down the adventurous 6 drops! When you’re ready to clean up and shop or go out to eat, take advantage of the showers and restrooms at the Riverfront Park shelter.
2. Scream for Ice Cream!
Treat yourself to a sweet treat this summer! Where to find ice cream, you ask? Well funny you asked!

Enjoy a hard serve cone, sundae, shake or malt from Widner Drug & Gift Shoppe’s 1950’s Ice Cream Parlor in Manchester
Stop into Olive that Deli for a cone, sundae, shake or malt of almost any flavor

3. Go for a Swim
Another way to cool off this summer is to go for a swim in one of the many pools! No matter where you are in the county, you’re close to a place where you can slip on your swimsuit and go for a dip! There are pools in Manchester, Colesburg, Edgewood, Earlville, & Hopkinton! If the lake or beach life is calling your name, head on out to Lake Delhi or Backbone Lake!
4. Cheers to a Cold One
What better way to cool down than to enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine, or margarita?! Well, you’re in luck in Delaware County, because there’s all of that and more! Taste some local wine at Café Rosé in Edgewood, a tasty margarita at Rio Blanco, a cold craft beer from Franklin Street Brewing Company, or a summer drink from one of the many bars in the county! 5. Shop til ya Drop
Need a little AC in your life after a long day catching some rays? Pop into one of Delaware County’s 45+ shopping destinations! With everything from boutiques, consignment & home decor, to hardware, gifts & shoes, you’re bound to find something to take home with you (while enjoying the cool air)!
